I feel like I’m at a point in my life where I know I need to advance the main quest, but instead I faff about doing side quests because the main quest is intimidating and I don’t feel like I’ve leveled up enough to be able to handle it.

Just bringing over a tip I posted on Facebook that I thought might helpful to cosplay folks.

Soooo a lot of times the metal buckles you grab off the shelf be it for armor or straps or jackets are going to be a shiny plated nickel. It’s possible to find an antique nickel finish, but it’s rarer, especially if you don’t have a specialty store like Tandy Leather near you. For me, Tandy didn’t have the antique finish in the buckles I liked best, so I picked up the shiny ones and tried to figure out a way to age them for Fili.

After some internet digging I found a few different methods for darkening/aging the metal, but I didn’t really have the time or tools for them. Then I randomly found this product and decided, why not. The stuff is called… Nickel Ager. And hallelujah, it does exactly what it says. In the pic above, you can see how shiny my buckles were in the top picture. The middle picture was after letting them sit in the solution of Nickel Ager for TWO MINUTES and then letting them dry overnight. After that I buffed them with steel wool, and the result is the bottom right buckle. Bottom left is before being buffed. The result is beautiful, and half a bottle of the smallest bottle covered 6 buckles and a handful of studs and probably would have gone further if I was being careful (aka not lazy).

So yeah, if you have bright shiny nickel plated buckles and need them to have a natural aged look, THIS.

Stellan Skarsgard Returns For ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’
Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård) reveals his Marvel Studios contract length and hints at his role in ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’.

http://wp.me/pguxy-21yG

Skarsgård:  “[U]sually they call [Selvig] in if they need something explained. There’s a lot of explanations to do when it comes to that universe.”

REALLY, Marvel??

You know, I am trying to exercise a lot of forbearance, trying to be fair to all the other characters you have going, think in terms of the needs of the particular story, and to give you the benefit of the doubt.  I believed that the Age of Ultron story did not call for someone like Foster and saw greater potential for her work to be salient to the Thanos story, presumably to be the core of Avengers3.

But it would seem that the story has need of someone with Foster’s kind of knowledge.  She was the subject matter expert in Thor1, and she was pushed aside in Avengers1.  Because of that, Selvig apparently now is your go-to character for explaining cosmic-scale MCU physics.

If that’s what happening, it is wrong and unfair.  This character deserves better.  Your audience deserves better.

Nah this one isn’t sexism, it’s because Natalie Portman really doesn’t like acting in MCU and likely did not want to be involved in this movie.

She didn’t even want to be involved in Thor 2.

Jane deserved a better actress than her. Someone who actually gave a shit about the character and role.

Haha no. Nonononononono no.

Do you know WHY Natalie Portman dislikes Marvel so much? It’s because she hated the way Jane Foster was written (damselled a lot) and was pushing for a female director to take over the reigns of Thor 2. She would’ve been the first female director to head a Marvel movie … until Marvel fired her for pretty vague reasons.

Let’s remember that Marvel has a history of being shitty to actors who dare to speak up against ANYTHING. Terrance Howard, for example? Remember how RDJ had to basically BLACKMAIL Marvel into increasing the salaries of all of his co-workers because they were paying them the bare minimum that they could get away with? (They signed Chris Hemsworth on as an unknown and locked him down to a tiny salary because of that and made him the same offer every movie knowing he was under contract.)

Natalie Portman has gotten SO MUCH SHIT from the Thor fandom, mostly misogynists who would’ve hated Jane Foster for any reason, but even some so-called “Jane Foster” fans who can’t comprehend why she doesn’t treat Marvel like a precious jewel.

Portman’s done problematic things. You can dislike her, whatever. But she has fought for Jane Foster in the past and it’s ENTIRELY Marvel’s fault that they’re fucking her over.

What fucks me up about the Darren Wilson fundraiser is that he hasn’t been charged with a crime. He doesn’t have to hire a lawyer. He’s on paid leave, so he’s not losing wages. This is not covering his expenses, because he doesn’t have any additional expenses. This is a reward. He’s getting a $250,000 reward for murdering an unarmed black kid.

HE HAD TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL. MIKE REACHED FOR HIS GUN. HIS FRIEND THAT WAS WITH HIM EVEN ADMITTED THAT HE LIED ABOUT THE COP JUST RANDOMLY SHOOTING HIM AND CONFIRMED THAT THEY ROBBED THE STORE. SELF DEFESE.

None of this is true. This is how good the Ferguson PD’s smear campaign has been. Not one sentence here is accurate. Let’s break this down:

  1. "HE HAD TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL." Michael Brown’s autopsy showed no sign of struggle. The picture of the CT scan that’s being passed around to show that Wilson had an orbital blowout fracture is actually from 2008 from the University of Iowa, and a right-wing pundit photoshopped out the date and hospital info.
  2. "MIKE REACHED FOR HIS GUN." Officer Wilson’s story is that the first shot that went off was an accidental discharge while they were fighting over the gun. However. there was no gunpowder residue on Mike Brown, meaning that he was absolutely not holding the gun when it went off and furthermore that he was not even that close. He was fired on from a distance.
  3. "HIS FRIEND THAT WAS WITH HIM EVEN ADMITTED THAT HE LIED ABOUT THE COP JUST RANDOMLY SHOOTING HIM AND CONFIRMED THAT THEY ROBBED THE STORE." This is actually a compound lie, which is kind of impressive. His friend, Dorian Johnson, did not say that. His lawyer said they were together in the convenience store, the police said there was a robbery, and the media put those two statements next to each other to imply a statement was made that never was. Johnson isn’t being charged with anything because the Ferguson PD “determined he committed no crime." The Ferguson PD also admitted Officer Wilson didn’t know about the scuffle at the convenience store before he stopped Brown and Johnson. You may be wondering why I say scuffle instead of robbery. That’s because there wasn’t one: the owners of the store didn’t call the police and video shows Brown paying for the cigarillos! The clerk confronted Brown about reaching across the counter instead of waiting for him to hand over the cigarillos, he put his hand on Brown, and Brown pushed him. Yes, he pushed him too hard, but the clerk apparently didn’t care enough to call the police. The police were called by another customer in the store, who apparently didn’t know what was actually happening.
  4. "SELF DEFESE." The autopsy shows that he was shot on the inside of his arm, meaning his hands were up, and the top of his head, meaning that, since Brown was 6’4”, either he was on his knees or the officer was 8’ tall. The officer was not 8’ tall.

The evidence clearly shows that Officer Wilson, who had no idea of the not-actually-a-robbery, executed the unarmed Mike Brown while he was on his knees with his hands in the air. Just like all of the eyewitnesses said (except for “Josie,” who turned out not to be real).

But the Ferguson PD’s already tainted public opinion. They’ve spread so many lies so effectively that no amount of evidence will bring justice. Your ignorance here is proof of just how effective it’s been.
